About Roshini

I am an experienced maths tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience, supporting students from early foundations through to A-Level Further Maths, both online and in person. I hold a First-Class Honours degree in Mathematics and a Distinction in MSc Investments, and I currently work in risk management at an investment bank, bringing strong subject knowledge, structure, and professionalism to every lesson.

I have worked with over 100 students, including many from London’s leading independent schools such as Haberdashers, North London Collegiate, and St Paul’s. I prepare students for 7+, 11+, 13+, 16+, GCSE, and A-Level examinations, with a consistent track record of strong academic outcomes.

I specialise in tailored, one-to-one tuition, including for students with SEN, SEMH needs, or anxiety. Having personally struggled with traditional teaching methods as a child, I understand how important it is for students to feel supported and not rushed. This led me to develop a flexible, multi-method approach that adapts to each child’s learning style and ensures genuine understanding rather than memorisation.

I place great importance on clear communication with parents, providing regular feedback, lesson summaries, and homework guidance. My lessons are structured, calm, and encouraging, helping students build confidence, resilience, and independent problem-solving skills.

I am deeply committed to helping every student reach their potential, and many of my students go on to achieve significant grade improvements, including A and A* results at GCSE and A-Level.

Each lesson is carefully tailored to meet the individual needs of the student. The first session begins with a diagnostic assessment to identify strengths, gaps, and learning style, allowing me to create a clear, personalised learning plan.

For every topic, I use a range of teaching methods to suit how each student thinks and learns. Concepts are broken down step by step, ensuring students develop a deep understanding rather than relying on memorisation.

Lessons are structured, challenging, and goal-focused, while remaining calm and supportive. I encourage high standards and consistent effort, helping students build confidence, resilience, and strong problem-solving skills over time.

Students who have worked with me long-term have gone on to achieve grades 8/9 at GCSE and A/A* at A-Level. Progress is regularly reviewed, with clear targets set to ensure steady improvement.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in my field began when I was taught using traditional methods that I often found difficult to understand. I struggled in school, but when I started self-teaching at 16, I discovered clearer and more effective ways to understand the material. This experience improved my confidence and changed how I approached learning. Remembering my own struggles motivated me to become the tutor I wish I had. I started tutoring in my first year of university and have continued since, helping others understand concepts in a clearer and more supportive way.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mathematics from nursery foundations up to A-Level Further Maths. I enjoy discussing foundational concepts, algebraic reasoning, and problem-solving strategies with students. I focus on breaking down topics such as calculus, functions, geometry, and proof to ensure students understand why methods work rather than simply applying formulas. At higher levels, I particularly enjoy exploring logic, vectors, complex numbers, and advanced problem-solving, helping students build confidence as well as deeper mathematical insight.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

At university, I had a lecturer who noticed I was struggling and often felt behind in class. I attended regular one-to-one sessions to improve my understanding, and he taught me at my own pace with patience and encouragement. He once told me I reminded him of his younger self, which motivated me greatly. His support shaped my approach to teaching, inspiring me to be patient and understanding with students who face similar challenges.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a key quality of a good tutor is the ability to understand how students think and to see problems from their perspective. I make an effort to step into their position and identify where confusion begins, so I can explain concepts in a clearer and more relatable way. For this reason, I created 5 methods for each topic - so that students with different needs have alternative ways to understand the material. This ensures they are not limited to one method and can choose the approach that works best for them.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I completed a BSc in Mathematics before going on to study an MSc in Investments. Many of my peers came from finance backgrounds and initially seemed to adapt more quickly, which at times made me feel behind. However, I worked relentlessly - often studying long hours - determined not to let self-doubt define me. With the support of a lecturer who recognised my dedication, I went on to win both the Best Dissertation Prize and the MSc Investments Prize for top performance in the cohort. That experience shaped my teaching profoundly. I understand what it feels like to struggle and to question your ability, which is why I ensure my students feel supported, encouraged, and never defined by temporary difficulty.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

A-Level Mechanics was challenging for me as it required a different way of thinking, and at the time I lacked consistent teaching support, so I had to develop my understanding independently. After university, I revisited and restudied the subject in depth to make it more digestible for my students and to present the concepts in clearer, more accessible ways.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I began learning the piano in adulthood to fulfil my 13-year-old self’s dream. It represents personal growth and a commitment to pursuing goals no matter how long they take. Learning the piano has strengthened my patience and discipline - qualities that directly influence and enhance my teaching.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

My friends have often told me that I have a natural ability to explain things clearly, not just in maths but across different subjects. They regularly come to me for help because I can tailor my explanations to suit different ages and levels of understanding. I make sure I adjust my approach and continue explaining until the concept truly makes sense to them.
