About Clarissa
I have spent over six years helping students connect with the violin in a deeply personal and meaningful way. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance, which gave me a very strong foundation in classical technique. However, my actual teaching style focuses on a holistic and therapeutic approach to learning this beautiful instrument.
We will focus on self-expression, emotional release, and musical storytelling, using violin playing as a tool for mindfulness and stress reduction. In our sessions, we often use creative improvisation, musical journaling, and soundscape creation to support your personal growth. I specialize in working with neurodiverse learners, trauma survivors, and adult students who are looking for emotional healing through music.
For instance, I recently worked with an adult student who felt completely overwhelmed by life and struggled with severe daily anxiety. Instead of practicing traditional rigid exercises, we created a soft, ambient soundscape together that allowed them to express their feelings without words. They left the lesson feeling incredibly calm, and they now use their violin every evening as a peaceful way to unwind.
I make sure my studio is always a gentle, supportive, and completely safe space where you can proceed at your own pace. I truly believe that the violin is a safe and powerful tool for discovering your inner voice, emotional connection, and overall well-being. My teaching approach is warm, highly interactive, and carefully goal oriented to help you feel at home in any orchestra. We will focus on essential classical ensemble skills like group dynamics, ensemble blend, following a conductor, and proper orchestral etiquette. I also guide students through detailed sectional practice and preparation for upcoming youth or community orchestra auditions.
In our lessons, we use score reading, collaborative learning, and fun simulated ensemble exercises to recreate the feeling of a full stage. This specialized training is incredibly helpful for vocalists and modern pop string players who want to bridge the gap into symphonic performance. For example, I recently coached a young pop violinist who wanted to join a local community orchestra but had never played with a conductor before.
We practiced watching hand gestures while maintaining a steady pulse, and they successfully won a seat in the second violin section. I am deeply committed to your steady progress and will support you at every turn so you can truly excel in a group setting. We will work together on managing your volume and matching your bow strokes with the players sitting right next to you.
These step by step lessons will build your confidence and prepare you to step onto the symphony stage with pride. Together, we will turn the challenge of orchestral playing into a deeply rewarding experience. You will learn to listen to the whole room while playing your own part perfectly.
