About Ria
I'm a second-year Biomedical Physiology student at the University of Georgia, with a strong academic background that includes several AP courses taken in Canada, such as Grade 9 and 10 AP Mathematics and English, and Grade 11 AP Advanced Functions. My teaching experience includes working as a Summer Camp Counselor at the Kortright Center of Conservation, where I taught math and English foundations to children ages 3 to 11, and serving as an Executive Member of HOSA, where I trained my peers in medical math, including dosage calculations. In grade 10, I also co-wrote an argumentative essay on malnutrition in third-world countries that ranked in the top 14 globally in the GRC Social Impact Essay Writing Competition. I bring this mix of academic strength, teaching experience, and real-world problem-solving to every tutoring session, with the goal of helping students build both the skills and the confidence to succeed.

Hi, I'm Ria — and I'm really excited about the chance to be your tutor!
I'm in my second year studying
Biomedical Physiology at the University of Georgia, and I've always loved helping things "click" for people. Back in Canada, I took AP Math and English in grades 9 and 10, and Grade 11 AP Advanced Functions — which got into some pretty intricate polynomial, rational, and trigonometric function problems. So I'm comfortable teaching math from the basics up through advanced functions, plus reading comprehension, grammar, and essay writing.
As a Summer Camp Counselor at the Kortright Center of Conservation, I worked directly with children ranging from ages 3 to 11, giving me hands-on experience teaching elementary-level math to kids at very different developmental stages. With younger children, I focused on foundational skills like basic counting, number recognition, and building the patience and focus needed before they were ready for structured learning, while with older children I guided them through more advanced problem-solving and reinforced core math concepts through engaging, hands-on activities. This experience taught me how to break math down into simple, digestible steps and adjust my explanations based on how each child learns best. I bring that same patience and adaptability to tutoring, along with a genuine enjoyment of watching a student go from struggling with a concept to confidently working through it on their own.
Moreover, my tutoring experience extends to my role as a former HOSA executive member and event trainer, where I tutored my peers on HOSA events that I had a deep knowledge foundation on: Medical Math and Nutrition. I taught my peers that even a little bit of support goes a long way! My experience as a HOSA executive member and trainer demonstrates how I can teach at early high school level as well.
My approach is pretty simple: meet the student where they're at and see what type of learner they are: visual, auditory, or more hands-on!
Visual learners
For students who learn best by seeing information, I use diagrams, color-coding, and visual breakdowns instead of just explaining things out loud. For math, I might draw a graph or use a color-coded pie chart to show fractions. For English, I'll map out an essay's structure visually — intro, body paragraphs, and conclusion — so the student can see how the ideas connect before writing.
Auditory learners
For students who learn best by listening and talking things through, I focus on verbal explanation and discussion. I'll talk through a math problem out loud and ask the student to explain the reasoning back to me in their own words. For things like formulas or grammar rules, I'll turn them into a rhyme or a simple phrase they can repeat to themselves.
Hands-on (kinesthetic) learners
For students who learn best by doing, I bring in hands-on tools and active practice. For younger students, that might mean using objects like counters or blocks to model a math problem. For older students, I'll have them work problems on a whiteboard themselves instead of just watching me solve it, since writing it out helps the concept stick.
