About Shannon

I am a dedicated, professional and experienced educator. I am just starting out on SuperProf but have taught with Tutorful, MyTutor and Tutor Doctor in the past. I have a first-class degree in History from Cambridge and six years of tutoring experience. I also worked as Teaching Assistant for a year in a secondary school in Cambridge. In the past, I have taught a range of subjects, including Maths, History, Politics, Spanish, Science, English, 11+ prep, SATs prep and Oxbridge entrance prep, but I am now focusing on the humanities. I teach all ages from KS3 up to degree level.

I adore History and am currently working on a historical and philosophical book titled 'A Brief History of Order, Chaos and Fear'. I like making connections across disciplines and this is reflected in my lessons which feature plenty of discussion work and critical thinking, alongside essay and exam technique.

I am also a novelist and a performance poet. I would describe myself as confident, empathetic and driven. I will be doing my teacher training (PGCE) next year and longer term, I would like to go into politics and push for an overhaul of the education system.

About the lesson

My lessons are planned in detail; I pack a lot into the hour. I track progress through asking lots of questions and encouraging them in return, alongside assessments and homework essays. I would say my key strength is my ability to quickly identify my tutees' areas for improvement and I provide clear, substantiated feedback.

I can be flexible with lessons - I can offer intensive tutoring with several sessions per week, or just the occasional session when extra help is needed. Lessons tend to be an hour but I can do 2-hour lessons as well if preferred. I offer a free trial lesson so you can see if we're a good match.

I would describe myself as committed and diligent, as demonstrated by my academic record. I am a good listener, a good communicator and I have plenty of patience. I am also fun and engaging and my lessons are relaxed and varied, not strict or dry. My sessions feature lots of discussion work and there is no 'right and wrong', but at the same time, I maintain a consistent focus on exam/essay technique.
