About April
I’m April Lorenzi, an educator, coach, and author with a background as a professional dancer and performer who has performed internationally. I wrote The Secret Dance Technique, a research-based book on mental skills for dancers, and hold a BA with dual majors in Psychology and Interdisciplinary Performance Psychology. I now use dance as a tool to teach essential mental skills. I work with movers of all levels—whether exploring dance for fun, fitness, and mind-body wellness, or building on prior experience. My sessions help students develop key mental skills—confidence, memory, creativity, resilience, and social-emotional learning—while also improving fitness and dance technique. My Approach as a Tutor:
I offer personalized online Zoom sessions that are tailored to each child’s goals, combining dance with mental skills coaching to strengthen skills such as confidence, memory, creativity, resilience, and emotional intelligence. Each session is designed for educational purposes and personal development, helping students grow in practical ways they can apply in school, work, and everyday life.
Teaching Method & Techniques:
Movement-based exercises in Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, or Creative Movement
Mental skills training: confidence, memory, focus, emotional intelligence, creativity, problem-solving, and managing stress or anxiety
Optional integration of English or Spanish language learning
Lessons are hands-on, interactive, and adaptable to each student’s experience and learning style
Typical Lesson Plan:
1. Welcome & Mental Skill Focus:
We start each class with a short discussion introducing the mindset topic of the day.
2. Dance Technique & Practice:
Students learn new moves, choreography, or combinations while applying the mental skill in real time.
3. Cool Down & Reflection:
We wrap up with a reflection — students share wins and set small goals for their next dance session.
What Sets Me Apart:
I am an author and educator with a background as a professional performer. My approach is research-based and fun, connecting dance and mental skills to life in a meaningful way. I have experience teaching children, teens, and adults, and I am comfortable coaching in English or Spanish.
