About Issi

Hi! I'm Issi, an undergraduate studying English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. I have always been a huge bookworm and loved reading and writing from a young age, and so when I discovered this was something I could do in an educational setting I was overjoyed! I’m a dedicated and approachable English tutor with a passion for helping students achieve their full potential. I have a deep understanding of both the Language and Literature components of the GCSE curriculum. I’m familiar with major exam boards such as AQA and Edexcel, and I tailor each lesson to suit the student’s learning style, goals, and progress. My approach is calm, encouraging, and structured. I break down complex ideas, offer clear guidance, and work with students to develop the analytical and writing skills they need to succeed. Whether a student is aiming to pass or striving for top grades, I provide a supportive environment that helps them grow in both confidence and ability. Punctual, professional, and genuinely enthusiastic about English, I always aim to make lessons enjoyable, focused, and rewarding. The school setting can be hugely unhelpful for so many students, leading to limitations of anxiety or a lack of resources. I aim always to cultivate a safe and enjoyable space where I can not only aid students with their studies, but also instil a genuine love of what they are studying.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is student-centred, flexible, and rooted in building confidence alongside skills. I focus on breaking down the GCSE English curriculum into manageable, engaging parts, using a mix of structured planning, creative thinking, and exam-specific strategies. I tailor each lesson to the student’s strengths, needs, and learning style and can adapt lessons to target specific aspects of the curriculum. For literature, I help students explore texts deeply, guiding them through themes, language, and context while encouraging their own interpretations. For language, we practise comprehension, analysis, and writing techniques through model answers, real exam questions, and interactive activities. I often use guided annotation, planning frameworks, and timed writing to develop both fluency and precision. Most of my lessons are 60 minutes long, as this provides a focused and productive window for learning without overwhelming the student. However, I can adapt to 45- or 90-minute sessions depending on the student’s schedule and needs. After completing both GCSE and A Level study of English, gaining grade nines and an A* respectively, I have begun my study of English at University level. I am currently working as a volunteer with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and / or students with SEN requirements to provide further support with core literacy skills. I have a huge passion for English, and hope to be able to share this with students as I deliver lessons to support them with their studies. I tutor students aged 13–16 who are preparing for their GCSEs, whether they’re aiming for a grade 4 or pushing for a grade 9. I work with students of all abilities whether this be those who need extra support or those looking to stretch their skills further.
