About Tiffany

I'm currently a BA Music student at the University of Waterloo and have been playing the violin for 15+ years. I have been taught by Ilana Waniuk, Lance Ouellette, and Peggy Hills. When I was younger, I wanted to be a music teacher when I grew up. As I got older, I developed other interests but music always stuck with me. One of my violin teachers encouraged me to teach violin to beginners to help further develop my relationship with the violin. I don't think that you will ever be too old to learn a new instrument and although it can be challenging, I emphasize being able to enjoy playing the instrument. I don't want my students to get into the mindset that playing the violin is a chore. I want you to enjoy playing the violin and be able to develop other musical skills. I will be very patient and ensure that you feel comfortable in all our lessons because that is where you should be able to make mistakes and learn.

About the lesson

I will offer 30 minute (typical for beginners) or 45 minute lessons for students

Lesson structure:
1. Technique
- scales and arpeggios, posture
- As beginner violinists, it's important to practice proper posture with basic scales. I will guide you in learning proper intonation as well.
2. Study/Repertoire
- Studies/Etudes are good to practice specific techniques such as learning how to play faster or specific bowing; however, I understand that some younger students would rather learn specific techniques through scales so we may not have a study with some students
- Depending on your musical background and how much you practice during the week before your lesson, it will affect your progression with pieces. I will start off with one piece and if I think that you're ready to juggle two or even 3 pieces at a time, then I will start to incorporate other pieces.

This is my first time teaching the violin, so I would be open to beginners of any age. I will try my best to customize the lesson based on your needs and wants. In our first lesson, I will get to know you and we will discuss materials and start to play!

Details

Each 30 minute lesson is $30 and each 45 minute lesson is $40. If I need to travel to your location, there will be an extra $10 fee minimum to cover my bus fare depending on the location.
