About Jessica

Since graduating in German and Hispanic Studies from the University of Nottingham five years ago, I have worked as an editor for an educational publishing house, in admissions and recruitment at a university and as a private tutor and teacher.

I have six years of tutoring experience in EFL / ESOL (English as A Foreign and Second Language,) Spanish, English Language and German (GCSE and A Level). I have tutored in the UK, Spain and Colombia and have taught English at GCSE level in a high school in Medellin, Colombia. Over the last 2 years, since returning back to London, I have also mentored students applying for universities as well as guiding them through the scholarship process.

Testimonials :

"Jessica is a great language tutor. I really enjoyed learning with her and I did very well in the school assessments she helped me prepare for last year" (Jake, Year 9 pupil)

“Jessica helped me with my applications to study a masters in Economics at LSE, Kings College and Durham University. She was extremely patient, helpful and creative during our personal statement sessions. We also worked together on my application for the Chevening scholarship – I can’t thank her enough!” (Farrukh, Economics graduate)

"Jessica is enthusiastic and reliable, and, moreover very committed to helping young people learn a foreign language. The pupils she has taught have enjoyed her sessions hugely." (Tara, Access to Languages Manager)

The beauty in learning is that the experience is different for everyone. Many people I have worked with in the past have felt frustrated because the way they learn isn’t celebrated in a typical classroom setting – this is where I come in.

I provide one-to-one and group tuition in English Language, ESL, German, Spanish and Portuguese. I also offer primary level homeschooling and university admissions guidance. From your first session, we will map out your goals, look at who you are as a learner (VARK), discuss your strengths and weaknesses and how you assess your own progress.

My teaching method is based on building confidence and making sure the student realizes their potential. I believe that once these barriers are broken down, learning a new language or analysing our own is a lot easier! One of the approaches I often use is a blended learning approach, whereby students use online resources such as podcasts, videos and articles and then we strengthen their knowledge of topics they have learnt through putting it into practice in a real life situation. Through discussions and interactive exercises, I make sure that students aren't just memorising but really understanding the language used.
