About Mahfoudh

Hi! I’m Mahfoudh, a Computer Science student specializing in Artificial Intelligence at Lehman College. I’ve always enjoyed technology and problem-solving, but what I enjoy just as much is helping other people understand things that initially seem difficult.

I have experience tutoring students in Java, object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and other computer science topics, with more than 340 tutoring sessions completed. Through that experience, I’ve worked with students with different backgrounds, skill levels, and learning styles.

I’m a patient and approachable tutor, and I try to create an environment where students feel comfortable saying, “I don’t understand this,” without feeling embarrassed. I remember what it feels like to learn something for the first time, so I focus on explaining concepts clearly and finding different ways to approach a topic when the first explanation doesn’t click.

Outside of tutoring, I’m passionate about software development, artificial intelligence, and building projects that solve real-world problems. I’m always learning something new myself, and I bring that same curiosity and enthusiasm into my lessons.

Whether you’re completely new to programming or trying to strengthen your computer science skills, I’d be happy to work with you and help you become more confident and independent.

About the lesson

I believe programming becomes much easier when you understand why something works, not just what code to write. My goal as a tutor is to make students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through problems without feeling overwhelmed.

I have experience tutoring students in Java, object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and general computer science. I have worked with students at different levels, including beginners who are writing their first programs as well as college students who need help understanding more advanced concepts.

A typical lesson starts by identifying what the student is struggling with and what they want to accomplish. We then break the topic into smaller concepts and work through examples together. I like to use simple explanations, visualizations, code walkthroughs, and practice problems rather than simply giving students the answer. For programming, I often have the student explain their thinking and write the solution themselves while I guide them when they get stuck.

I can help with understanding class material, preparing for exams, completing practice problems, debugging code, reviewing assignments, and building stronger problem-solving skills. I also adapt each lesson to the student's pace instead of following the same approach with everyone.

What sets me apart is that I focus on helping students become independent problem-solvers. I don't want a student to leave a lesson knowing how to solve only one problem—I want them to understand the underlying concept well enough to recognize and solve similar problems on their own.
