About Sushant
* Parent of two wonderful kids.
* Just recently left my healthcare start-up of 11 years to focus full-time on chess.
* Live in the SF Bay Area in Menlo Park
I am an intermediate chess player who has been playing for 8 years and compete in online and over the board tournaments (~1600 on chess.com).
My chess tutor money supports my chess app development, where I want to spread my passion for this great game to everyone! :)

About the lesson

Who I teach:
I teach the chess-curious (who know about chess but have never played/don't know all the rules) and chess beginners (who know the rules but want to improve).
What sets me apart:
1. I have built companion apps for kids and adults to help me teach the rules of chess (homework will be assigned there!)
2. I start with puzzles and keep it interesting and exciting - first, instead of trying to make sure you know everything at once
Teaching methods and techniques:
Kids 3-12:
- Readers, 6-12: I start with captures! As that is very exciting. And spend more time on puzzles and making it engaging for the kid.
- For pre-readers 3-6: I use StoryTime Chess - an excellent book that has a story for each piece. I also have an app I built to teach my own daughter as a companion app.
Kids 13-18 and Adults:
- I start with checkmates and use puzzles to build up to how all the pieces move to a full game.
- The companion app I have built takes you through the history of chess, from where it started 2000 of years, and you learn to play just as chess knowledge and thinking evolved!
I am an intermediate player who has been playing for 8 years and compete in tournaments.
