About Rohan
Hi, I'm Rohan! I'm a 1500 rapid / 1800 daily player on Chess.com — and I started at around 500 myself, so I've walked the exact path you're on. I know every plateau and pitfall between here and there. I love teaching this game. By day I'm a physician, and I've spent years teaching and mentoring in academic settings — breaking complex ideas down clearly is genuinely what I do best, and I bring that same structured, patient approach to chess. No judgment, no jargon, just steady progress. Whether you're learning how the pieces move or you're past 1000 and pushing toward the next level, I'll meet you exactly where you are.

About the lesson

One-hour lessons on Zoom with an interactive shared board, so we're looking at the same position and solving things together — or in person in Baltimore, your choice.
Beginners: how the pieces really move (including the rules everyone gets wrong, like en passant and castling), basic checkmates, and your first tactical patterns — forks, pins, skewers.
Intermediate (up to ~1300): opening principles, middlegame planning, deeper tactics and calculation, and reviewing your own games together — that's where the fastest improvement comes from.
I teach kids and adults. Homework is just a few puzzles if you want them — no pressure.
