Perfect! Bernard, helped me with financial management last year, he was able to breakdown the subjects key points and taught in a way that was easy to understand, i was able to get a good grade for that module. Perfect! When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I developed interest in Accounting and finance since I was in high School . From my university days, I have been engaged in private tutoring. My students have been satisfied with my teaching approach and have recommended me to other learners.
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I teach Majority of Accounting and finance modules, especially Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting, Financial Management, Corporate Reporting, Audit and Assurance. I do less of Taxation and econometrics.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
At every stage of my educational and professional development, I have had at least a teacher that inspired me. I am always thrilled by a teacher that simplifies concepts, listens to students and help students achieve higher grades.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
I believe and know that a good teacher must be knowledgeable, patient, a good listener and sensitive to dictate when his students are not connecting well with him.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
In my second year at the University, I found that students were afraid of Cost Accounting because the teacher made it seem so. He was a little unfriendly and didn't explain things in details. After a few lessons, I decided to organise tutorials for my course mates on Cost Accounting. They enjoyed the sessions and majority passed with good grades. From that time on, I became a peer-educator until I graduated. I have grown to like teaching and have been providing accounting tutorials to this day.
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
I do not currently face difficulties with respect to understanding or teaching my preferred Accounting subjects. I only have difficulties trying to convince students initially that I will be able to help them understand the subjects that they find difficult to understand.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
I have passion for teaching generally because it gives me the opportunity to meet and help people. Over the years however, I have grown to love teaching Accounting and Finance subjects.
What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?
What makes me a superprof is that I am a people oriented subject expert. I teach and listen with commitment. I adopt variety of methods to achieve my results.
