About Pat
I have been teaching reading to students from K - High School for many years. I also maintain a group of tutoring students who I have been working with since they first began to read. I am trained as a special education teacher and teach Intensive Reading as my full-time position.

Lessons are based on initial assessments to determine what the student need help with. Lessons are no more than one hour long.
A typical lesson begins with phonemic awareness exercises.
This is followed by review of previous phonics skills - both decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling).
Next, the new skill is introduced in an I do, we do, you do structure.
Students then have independent decoding and encoding words utilizing the new skill.
Each lesson ends with reading a short passage for fluency and answering several comprehension questions.
