About Autumn
I am a certified Social Studies teacher with over 10 years of experience working with middle school students across diverse learning needs. I specialize in breaking down complex historical and geographic concepts into clear, engaging, and student-friendly lessons. My teaching approach focuses on reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and critical thinking, helping students not only understand the content but also succeed on assessments and classroom assignments. I have extensive experience supporting Emergent Bilingual students and students with learning challenges, and I tailor each session to fit the student’s learning style and academic goals. As a tutor, my goal is to help students truly understand Social Studies content while building the skills they need to succeed independently in class. I use a structured, student-centered approach that focuses on clarity, comprehension, and confidence.
I break down complex historical, geographic, and civic concepts into simple, manageable parts using student-friendly language. Lessons include:
Guided reading and annotation strategies
Vocabulary support with visuals and real-world connections
Graphic organizers, timelines, and cause-and-effect charts
Questioning techniques that strengthen critical thinking and comprehension
I adjust my instruction based on the student’s learning style and pace, with a strong emphasis on supporting struggling readers, Emergent Bilingual students, and students who need extra structure.
