About Sofia

- What kind of experience do you have? I have 10 years of experience teaching private lessons to children and adults, and with classroom teaching. I currently work in London as a flute teacher at various prestigious schools. I have wide experience as a soloist, chamber groups and orchestras. I have performed with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia and English Touring Opera Orchestra. Knowledge that I can apply to my teaching, helping my students to develop both the technique and performance aspects. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes - Where and with whom did you train? I graduated from a Master's degree at the Royal College of Music, London with Sue Thomas and Celia Chambers. I have also participated in a number of masterclasses with leading performers such as Jonathan Snowden, Michael Cox, Karen Jones and William Bennett. During my studies I won the Edward and Helen Hague Senior Woodwind Competition and the RCM Solo Flute Prize 2017. - Do you belong to any professional organisations? British Flute Society

About the lesson

I am an enthusiastic and experienced teacher willing to share my passion with my students. I teach all ages and standards. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach flute and piccolo, also supporting my students with aural training and music theory. - Tell me about your qualifications. Master's degree at the Royal College of Music, London BMus Flute Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance Grade 8 Music Theory Grade 8 Flute - How much do you charge? £50 per hour £30 per half hour - Where do you teach? I'm willing to travel to pupils' houses in the London area depending on travel time and cost, at my studio in central London or online. - When are you available? I can be quite flexible during the day and evenings so I'm sure we can find a time to suit us both! - Which ages and levels do you teach? All ages are welcome for tuition, as well as all standards as my teaching style is flexible. If you want to improve your playing or are preparing for an exam or if you just want to learn how to play. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? If requested I can prepare students for auditions and ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) or Trinity Guildhall exam boards. - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I would be happy to give Flute lessons over Skype. - Do you have a personal message for students? I encourage you to enjoy the amazing experience of being able to play an instrument. I love seeing my pupils progress and enjoy their playing and I will help you to achieve your goals!

Perfect! I’m very happy with the lessons I’m now having with Sofia. I had been learning to play the flute with other teachers for five years, but Sofia has been able to identify lots of ways for me to improve my playing such as posture, breathing, tonguing, tuning etc. This has really helped me to address some bad habits I had previously developed. Her lessons cover a good mix of basic technique, studies and repertoire and she always provides useful tips for improvement alongside encouragement and praise.

Sofia has been a brilliant flute teacher over the years that she’s taught me. Her flute lessons are engaging and encouraging. She has lots attention to detail and tailors her classes for your needs with a mixture of songs and studies as well as scales in order to develop the right technique. In her classes she covers correct hand and mouth position, tempo, tuning, rhythm, aural and music theory. She has really helped me to develop my playing and achieve distinction in the exams I have taken so far. Totally recommended!
