About Dmitriy

I'm Dmitriy, an incoming Economics student at Cambridge (I also had an offer from LSE), having just finished my A-Levels with A*A*A* in Maths, Further Maths and Economics.

I started tutoring a couple of years ago in GCSE Maths, mostly because I enjoyed explaining things and had a knack for breaking down problems that were tripping people up. It grew from there once I noticed a pattern: most students who were stuck weren't actually missing content, they were missing technique - they didn't know how marks were being awarded, so they were losing them in ways that had nothing to do with understanding the topic.

That's the gap I focus on closing, and it's why I expanded into A-Level Maths, Further Maths and Economics as I worked through my own A-Levels. I treat tutoring as a proper part of what I do, not a side hustle. I built my client base from scratch through trial lessons and referrals, and I'm continuing to tutor alongside my degree.

About the lesson

I recently sat these exact exams and came out with 100% in Maths Paper 1, 95% in the following paper, and 92% and 94% in Economics Papers 1 and 2 - so I know first-hand how marks are actually awarded, not just what the mark scheme says in theory. If it's useful, we can go through my own papers together so you can see exactly how a top-band answer is built, step by step.

My teaching is structured, exam-focused, and tailored to the individual student. As someone who has recently taken these exams myself, I understand both the content and the specific mistakes students commonly make, as well as how marks are actually awarded. Rather than rushing through topics, I prioritise secure understanding of fundamentals, then build towards exam-style application.

I adapt my pace and explanations to suit each learner, ensuring concepts are fully understood before moving on. I place a strong emphasis on:
- Clear explanations using simple language
- Logical, step-by-step problem solving
- Developing confidence alongside accuracy
- Applying knowledge effectively in exam questions

Outline of a typical lesson: A typical lesson will follow this structure, adjusted as needed for the student:
- Quick review - We begin by revisiting previous content or homework to identify any gaps or misconceptions.
- Focused teaching - I introduce or reinforce a topic using clear explanations and worked examples, breaking down problems into manageable steps.
- Guided practice - The student attempts questions with my support, allowing me to correct errors early and refine their method.
- Exam-style application - We move on to exam-style questions, focusing on method marks, efficient working, and avoiding common pitfalls. - Reflection and next steps - We summarise what has been learned and identify clear targets for improvement before the next session.

What makes my lessons different I teach from the perspective of someone who has recently succeeded in these exams, not just studied the theory - and I can show you my actual scripts as proof I focus on how to pick up marks consistently, not just on getting the right answer I adjust lessons to suit the student's confidence level and learning style I ensure students understand why a method works, not just how to use it
