About Priyanka
Hi! I'm Priyanka, a passionate and dedicated tutor with a love for learning and an empathetic teaching style. With a BS in Bioengineering from UCSD, an MS in Business Analytics from Carnegie Mellon, and 6 years of experience tutoring students from grade 3 to 12, I am committed to helping students reach their full potential. Inspired by my own great teachers, I strive to create a nurturing and relatable environment where students thrive. My love for math stems from the puzzle and logic behind it, which I find both fascinating and intellectually stimulating. This passion drives me to make math engaging and accessible for my students, helping them see it not just as a subject, but as a valuable skill set that can be mastered with the right approach. In addition to my educational background and tutoring experience, I work in the field of analytics. This allows me to bring real-world applications and problem-solving skills into my lessons, enriching the learning experience by demonstrating the practical importance of academic concepts, and by always having answers to the much asked question "will we ever use this in real life?". By tailoring my approach to each student's individual strengths and areas for improvement, I foster both academic growth and a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
While my lessons are adaptable to accommodate the skills and comfort levels of my students, I particularly enjoy employing the Socratic method. This approach involves guiding students to discover answers on their own through carefully crafted questions. By prompting their memory and encouraging critical thinking, this method not only enhances problem-solving skills but also builds confidence and independence in learning. My goal is to empower students to take ownership of their education, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Collaboration with parents and students is key to ensuring the effectiveness of my tutoring sessions. For younger students, I maintain regular communication with parents to discuss progress, address concerns, and adjust strategies as needed. For older students, I engage them directly in this process, fostering a sense of responsibility and self-awareness in their learning journey. This ongoing dialogue allows me to tailor my teaching methods continuously and ensure that we are meeting our academic goals.
