About Sally
I have gained a considerable amount of experience from my previous employment and I have always strived to ensure that learners are able to reach their full potential with a positive learning experience.
I have over nine years of experience teaching and tutoring learners from a broad range of backgrounds and academic abilities in the South Wales Valleys region. I have worked in community, college and school environments with both groups and on a one to one basis. I have worked with people with a diverse range of learning needs and abilities.
I have been with Talk training for six months and during this time I have been working towards my TAQA award. I am responsible for visiting learners in the workplace to support and help them progress with their QCF qualifications, taking individual learner needs into account. I carry out observations, question & answers, professional discussions and annotate product evidence to cross reference into the NVQ and complete all documentation to record progress. I have a caseload of around forty learners who I am responsible for seeing every month from level 2 to level 4 in Business Administration.
I am also responsible for delivering workshops for the VRQ element of the QCF qualification on subjects such as Culture and Ethics in a Business Environment, Managing People, Performance and Personal Effectiveness in a Business Environment and Supporting Business Activities. I also provide support and help to learners with the Essential Skills element of the QCF qualification.
Before this I was with t2 group for just over a year and during this time I visited learners in their workplace to deliver Essential Skills Wales from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 in Communication, Application of Number and Information and Communication Technology.
I supported learners to progress at a steady rate in order to meet their expected target dates and manage my diary accordingly so as to take into account each individual’s learning needs, providing a range of support and resources (some of which I designed) in order to meet these needs. I incorporated Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and ESDGC into all activities so as to meet the expectations and requirements of the Welsh Government.
While working for t2 I achieved my Level 3 Certificate for Essential Skills Practitioners. I also had some experience of working with the retentions team where I gained experience of encouraging learner to re-engage with their learning programme. I also for a six week period supported learners in and around the London area to achieve their Functional Skills where I gained valuable experience of implementing and using test based assessments.
I worked for four years as an Administration Officer at Llantarnam School. During this time I gained skills and experience in many aspects of business administration. I worked closely with the Assistant Head Teacher, supporting him in his role as the 14 – 19 year old co-ordinator. In this role I organised parents’ evenings and award ceremonies, ensuring that all the planning was in place for them to run smoothly. In this role I also worked closely with the students helping them with their career choices and to use the Careers Wales website to support them to find employment. I have supported the Assistant Head Teacher with recording and analysing data on statistics such as FFT's and exam results using Microsoft Excel. This role required for me to work to deadlines and under pressure to plan and prepare work on time which developed my organisational skills.
I also had experience of working within the finance department, where I was responsible for using I.C.T. to receive invoices, order goods, complete e-returns (for money banked) and check purchase orders. I used all programmes of Microsoft Office to perform other tasks, such as keeping records, recording information and creating pupil reports to support the Finance Officer, Business Manager, Examinations Officer, Head Teacher and SLT team.
While at Llantarnam School I also covered the Inclusion Managers role for a period of time, taking on a pastoral role to support pupils and their families. This involved working closely and in-depth with all pupils providing emotional and practical support. I had experience of many different situations and feel I dealt with these appropriately, maintaining the trust and confidence of the students. I have attended multi agency meetings with Social Services, Inclusion Services, the Pupil Referral Unit and Welfare Agency to support students to return to or remain in education.
Whilst working as a supply teacher for Affinity Education, I taught different subjects to pupils aged between five and seventeen in various schools throughout South Wales. I often took my own resources when teaching ICT and Business Administration. I had to be flexible and adaptable and have had experience of working with pupils who have had issues and problems with their behaviour. During this time I also worked in a school specifically for pupils with learning needs which was very rewarding but challenging.
In my role as a Relief Sessional Youth Worker I had to be honest and open with students from ages 11 to 16. I travelled to various comprehensive schools throughout Blaenau Gwent, educating students in sexual health matters and demonstrating the empathy belly and real baby programme. I helped develop resources to make the subjects interesting and interactive for the pupils.
I gained experience in teaching from my role as a tutor at Coleg Gwent in both Crosskeys and Ebbw Vale campuses, on both an hourly paid and voluntary basis. I worked as a member of the Office Technology team, teaching students I.C.T. which included Word and Text Processing, Clait and Clait Plus, Computerised Accounts, E-mail and File management. I have facilitated termly progress meetings with students where I evaluated students’ progress, coursework and provided constructive feedback to improve the overall experience for the students. I developed fun and interactive resources to help students with their learning experience.
I have gained experience working as a private tutor on a one to one basis with an individual who had communication and learning difficulties. I supported the individual by programming her touch screen computer with software that would enable her to communicate more effectively with her family and friends and spent time, teaching her how to use this. Progress was slow, but with patience and understanding I found it was very rewarding to support her to become more independent.
I have also worked on a voluntary basis at the Blaina Institute for Open Learning, teaching I.C.T. skills to the people in the community, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens who had very different needs and abilities.
I believe that the experiences I have gained through my varied career are transferable. My experience demonstrates that I can work under pressure, meet deadlines, adapt my approach and be flexible with student groups from diverse backgrounds. I have excellent presentation, secretarial, I.C.T, and organisational skills. I am a committed, ambitious and motivated professional. I work well as part of a team and independently and I have always been determined to succeed. I endeavour to ensure that my learners have an enjoyable learning experience. I am willing to undertake any additional training that will enhance my skills. I learn quickly and assimilate detail into my work practice ensuring that learners are provided with the best quality support in their education.
