About Helen

I have been a British Sign Language tutor for 20 years, teaching hearing adults. I have mainly taught for the local Council but have taught privately too. I am a hearing tutor so am able to explain BSL to my learners so that they grasp the concept of BSL easier.

About the lesson

My teaching is friendly and very informal. I start off with the basic two-handed BSL alphabet so that if you don't want to continue with my classes (although I hope you do!) you will be able to communicate with a Deaf person (even if it is only with fingerspelling and the Deaf person will probably be bored by the time you get to the end of the sentence :-) ) and make yourself understood. I use a lot of handouts and the first 10 - 15 weeks we will be learning A LOT of vocabulary.

Alexandra is very good as signing and is able to sign basic sentences with ease. She is enthusiastic and eager to learn. I look forward to our sessions as I know she will be organised and ready to learn.
