About Emilio

I'm a composer, multi-instrumentalist and music educator with 7 years of teaching experience, with a background spanning performance, composition, rhythm and contemporary music.

I began studying and playing bongos in Chile in 2022 and have continued developing and using the instrument through live performances and musical projects in Australia. As a multi-instrumentalist, rhythm has always been an important part of how I understand and experience music, and bongos became another way for me to explore that side of musicianship.

I studied Music Composition at IP Projazz in Chile, specialising in music for cinema and audiovisual media. My broader musical training includes harmony, theory, composition, arranging and orchestration, which gives me a wider perspective on how rhythm and percussion function within music as a whole.

Since 2019, I've taught students of different ages through private lessons, music academies and specialised music programs. My teaching experience also includes guitar, piano, music theory, composition, songwriting and music production.

I believe there is no single correct way to learn music. Every student develops differently, and my role as a teacher is to understand what motivates you, find an approach that works for you and make learning music something you can genuinely enjoy rather than another obligation.

About the lesson

My lessons are built around developing "rhythm, groove and musicality through the bongos", rather than simply memorising patterns.

Every student learns differently, so lessons are adapted to your experience, musical interests and goals. We can start completely from scratch or build on the skills you already have.

Depending on your level, lessons can include:

* Basic bongo technique and hand coordination
* Timing, pulse and rhythmic accuracy
* Groove and rhythmic patterns
* Independence and coordination between both hands
* Dynamics, accents and musical expression
* Playing along with songs and other instruments
* Understanding where percussion fits within a band or arrangement
* Developing confidence improvising and creating your own rhythmic ideas

The goal is not only to learn rhythms, but to understand "how to use them musically" — listening to what's happening around you, knowing when to play or leave space, and gradually becoming more confident with rhythm as a musician.

PARKING

Private covered parking in the building is available for students during their lesson time.

PAYMENT & CANCELLATIONS

Lessons are generally booked as a regular weekly time and can be paid weekly or monthly.

If you need to cancel or change a lesson, please provide at least "48 hours' notice". With sufficient notice, the lesson can be rescheduled subject to availability.

For cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice, the lesson will still be charged. If possible, I may offer another available time within the same week, but make-up lessons are not guaranteed.

For planned holidays or extended absences, please provide at least "7 days' notice" so we can pause or adjust your regular lesson schedule.

If I ever need to cancel a lesson, it will always be rescheduled or credited.

This policy helps me keep regular lesson times available for each student while maintaining a consistent and reliable schedule for everyone.
