About Atharva

I am a 2021 BITS-Pilani graduate. I started working as an engineer recently, but I've been in love with math and puzzle-solving for as long as I can remember. I think the joy of mathematics isn't really cultivated in most schools or tuition classes - and it's my personal mission to change that for the better, one student at a time. The logical thought process you inculcate while solving a math problem is something that will serve you well throughout your life, no matter what line of work you go into. I had experienced this firsthand while I was doing my ECE degree at BITS, and I'm positive that it played a huge role in my academic performance there - allowing me to graduate with a 9.25 CGPA. I now work full-time as an electronics design engineer at Texas Instruments India, and I again see the benefits of a mathematical mindset in my work.

Many students are intimidated by math concepts or put off by exams. I believe that this can and should change. Each student can build intuition and get a "feel" of the subject if their teacher gives them enough time, energy, and attention - and that's where I come in.

During my time in BITS, I was part of a volunteer club called Abhigyaan. Abhigyaan members gave tuitions to kids who were too poor to afford formal classes. Through Abhigyaan I not only made a difference in a way I hadn't thought possible, I also picked up the basic DO's and DONT's of teaching. I have refined and polished this skillset over time and it's put me in a great position to spark a love for mathematics in any student - irrespective of age or background.

About the lesson

Math is one of those subjects that can be immensely fun - IF you teach it well. My teaching style focuses on analysis and intuition, rather than memorizing formulae. My job is to ensure that you grasp the core concepts, so that you can apply them anywhere. The general pattern I'll follow is this:

1) Introduction of the concept
2) Intuition
3) Shortcuts, tips & tricks

I use the blackboard/whiteboard extensively in my teaching - but a good chunk of my classes rely on mental visualisation as well. While teaching some higher-level topics, I might occasionally use graphing or scientific calculators (in software) to build intuition or to verify answers. By the end of the class, you should be comfortable with the concepts, the techniques used to solve a problem, as well as tools you can use to double-check your answer.

I am extremely approachable and believe in a door-always-open philosophy. You can always reach out to me with whatever doubts you have, I'll make sure to solve them ASAP. I'm a patient and encouraging teacher and will let your inner mathematician blossom!

As a subject, math is crucial no matter what line of work you're in. A good understanding of basic concepts is important not just for school-level exams, but also for cracking undergraduate and graduate-level exams like the JEE-MAINS & ADVANCED, the GRE, and the CAT, to name a few. As such, my classes are open to whoever would like to attend and gain a better understanding of the subject.

I offer a free 1 hr class so that the student can get a feel of my teaching style. Normally, classes are charged at Rs 700 per hour, but a webcam (online) class would only be charged Rs 600 per hour.
