About Iliana
I am a recent Psychology graduate from UC Berkeley, happy to be back home in San Diego. I started ballroom dancing my freshman year in college, and quickly fell in love with it. I volunteered as student assistant for a year, then continued for 2 years as beginner and intermediate student teacher of latin dances for Cal Ballroom, where I was team captain for a year. I have plenty of experience at collegiate-level competitions at Newcomer, Bronze, Silver and Gold level, and have won 2nd place in Silver and 3rd place in Gold Latin at USADance Nationals.

About the lesson

Each lesson is structured by type of dance (Latin: cha cha, rumba, samba, jive, paso doble; Standard: waltz, tango, foxtrot, Viennese waltz, quickstep), ideally being able to learn 3-4 dance steps per lesson (this can be adjusted depending on student needs). We start by learning the fundamental footwork as slowly as needed, then begin to speed up the tempo until it can be danced to music at normal speed. At the end of each lesson, students leave with a small routine that they may practice individually or with a partner to build on the skills learned.
