About Anson

I am a singer, pianist, composer, and songwriter. I studied jazz composition at Princeton University where I won the Louis Sudler prize in the arts and the Isodore and Helen Sacks prize in music. Last year, I was an artist-in-residence at the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris as a Fulbright scholar and a Harriet-Hale Wooley awardee. I've won Downbeat Music Student Awards for singing as well as the John Wallowich award for songwriting, and I've brought my own projects to venues like the Litchfield Jazz Festival, the Sultan Room, the Mercury Lounge, the Bitter End, Les Disquaires, and Le Musée Petit Palais.

I can't wait to meet you and grow your musicianship together!

About the lesson

My goal is to help you improve your technique, musicality, style - and to help you find the joy in the music! We will talk about the kind of music YOU want to learn and YOUR goals. If you don't have a solid idea of what you want, I have heaps of prepared music to choose from.
- Beginner levels (all ages)
- Performance preparation
- Learning new genres
- Audition preparation
I love to teach students the music they enjoy, from Bach to Taylor Swift, all ages, all levels.

Anson and I first met each other in college - I was immediately blown away by her incredible breadth of talents (singing/songwriting, piano, guitar, architecture, cognitive science, computer science). Do not be fooled, however: Anson did not sacrifice depth for breadth in her study of these topics. She is curious, cerebral, and has a rich understanding of the topics she teaches. In my case, this has been singing and piano. In spite of her deep understanding of music, she has always managed to translate complex topics into simple language and consistently meet me at my level. She has helped me to see the scientific side of music, and I can only imagine she helps others discover the beauty in science. Anson is also a kind, patient, and understanding person. I feel grateful to have learned from her and could not recommend her highly enough as a teacher.
