About Giacomo Satoru
I am an audio synthesis teacher at Saint Louis College of Music in Rome, where I have been teaching since 2021.
My main goal is to give you the knowledge and skills you need to craft your own sounds by making synthesis clear, practical and accessible. Whether you are completely new to synthesizers or already have some experience, I will adapt the lessons to your level and goals.
I understand that everyone learns differently, so I identify the most effective teaching strategy for each student. I adapt my explanations, examples and exercises to your individual level, interests and musical objectives.
Whether you are interested in modular synthesis, software synthesizers, sound design, sampling or MIDI, I will help you build a solid foundation and develop your own creative approach to sound.

Italian
I teach students how to design and synthesize sounds using both modular and compact synthesizers. My lessons combine clear visual and audio examples with in-depth explanations, adapted to each student’s level, interests and goals. I guide students through every process step by step, encouraging them to replicate the techniques we explore and gradually develop their own approach to sound design.
To learn modular synthesis, we use Voltage Modular, which offers a free version and allows students to explore the fundamentals of modular systems without having to purchase anything. For compact and software-based synthesis, we use Vital, which also has a free version and is an excellent tool for learning sound design, subtractive synthesis, wavetable synthesis and audio-rate synthesis (RM, AM, FM).
During the lessons, I provide PDF notes, exercises, private video tutorials and interactive learning activities through Wayground. These materials allow students to review the topics covered in class, study at their own pace outside regular lessons and ask me questions whenever they need support.
Exercises are optional, but they can be used to consolidate the concepts covered during the lessons and to track each student’s progress. When appropriate, I record this progress using an Excel spreadsheet and visual graphs, giving both the student and the teacher a clear overview of their development.
I also use gamified teaching methods (ranking system, card system) to make the learning process more engaging, motivating and interactive.
Lessons can cover a wide range of topics, including the fundamentals of audio synthesis, sound design, modular synthesis, compact and software synthesizers, sampling synthesis, custom sample-library creation and the MIDI protocol.
My lessons are suitable for all levels, including complete beginners who are approaching audio synthesis and synthesizers for the first time. More experienced students can follow a deeper and more personalized path based on their interests and musical goals.
