About Kim

I am deeply committed to nursing education and to helping the next generation of nurses achieve excellence. Teaching is not simply something I do—it is the most fulfilling work of my career. I am passionate about ensuring students truly understand nursing concepts, not just memorize information, and I am dedicated to meeting learners where they are.
I have extensive experience teaching both face-to-face and online, and my commitment to students remains unwavering regardless of the learning environment. I regularly work one-on-one with students who have questions about content, need additional time to process complex material, are struggling with specific concepts, or simply benefit from learning through a different approach. My goal is for every student to leave a tutoring session feeling confident, supported, and assured in their understanding of the material.
I have been a registered nurse for over 30 years and have spent the past 10 years formally teaching in a BSN program. Throughout my nursing career, I have continuously taught patients, peers, and students, and formal nursing education has proven to be the most rewarding role I have held. My clinical background includes experience in Medical-Surgical nursing, ICU, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, and a Chronic Pain Clinic. I have a particular passion for Medical-Surgical nursing and pharmacology.
My dedication to nursing education has been recognized through multiple honors, including Advisor of the Year, Professor of the Year in the College of Health and Sciences, an Eagle Award, and Nurse Educator of the Year on three occasions. These student-driven awards are especially meaningful to me, as they affirm my commitment to teaching and reinforce that I am exactly where I am meant to be—supporting, guiding, and empowering nursing students to succeed.

I love teaching nursing first and foremost! I want my students to succeed and to have an excellent understanding of medical surgical and pharmacology content. I have experience in face-to-face and online learning platforms. I try to meet the individual needs of the students since I know everyone learns in a different way. Some of the teaching techniques I use include the use of mnemonics, videos, lectures, games, interactive discussions, encouraging questions and sharing my own experiences of wins and losses in the profession. I have a great deal of patience and I take my time with my students. I want the student to walk away with a better understanding of the content. I have always loved having student nurses with me when I was at the hospital or clinical settings and working as a preceptor/mentor to new graduates. I work for the students and their success.
A typical day in the classroom for me includes lecture and PowerPoints (at times), games such as Nearpod, virtual BINGO for reviewing material, reviewing NCLEX style questions, drug calculations, showing short videos at times and always slowing down to allow questions. I encourage students to ask questions and start discussions. I let students know that they will not know everything and we always can learn from each other. I learn new things from my students each week!
My lessons are for those who are in pre-nursing and nursing courses. I do not teach critical care, but I do teach the adult medical surgical nursing, drug calculations, and pharmacology.
