About Priya
I am an experienced Chemistry teacher with a first class Biochemistry degree from the University of Warwick. I have been tutoring for the past 14 years and specialising in Chemistry for the past 8 years at GCSE and A Level. I'm currently an Assistant Principal.
I have also worked as an AQA Chemistry examiner for the past 4 years, across different Chemistry papers, giving me extensive insight into how Chemistry is assessed and what distinguishes the strongest examination responses.
Before moving into senior leadership, I was Head of Chemistry and subsequently Head of Science. As Head of Chemistry, I led the development of the Chemistry curriculum, including assessments, schemes of work and medium- and long-term curriculum planning. As Head of Science, I successfully led significant improvements in the department and student outcomes at both GCSE and A Level.
I now also support the professional development of Chemistry teachers across the school network. I deliver training to teachers on how to develop students' robust subject knowledge and how to use targeted teaching practices to secure strong outcomes for students.
My own classes have consistently demonstrated strong progress and attainment. Last year, all students in my GCSE Chemistry class achieved grades between 6 and 9. I have also taught students with GCSE target grades of 6 who went on to achieve Grade 9s, and A-Level Chemistry students with target grades of B who achieved A*s.
For me, success in GCSE Chemistry isn't only about achieving a strong examination grade. I want students to leave GCSE with secure enough knowledge and confidence to consider Chemistry at A-Level and to be well prepared for the increased challenge if they choose to continue the subject.
I am now offering a small number of one-to-one GCSE Chemistry tuition places alongside my work in education.

My lessons are highly focused and tailored to each student's individual gaps. I identify misconceptions and areas where marks are being lost, then use targeted teaching and carefully selected exam questions to build both understanding, application and exam performance.
I place a strong emphasis on exam technique: applying knowledge to unfamiliar contexts, tackling calculations, using precise scientific language and understanding exactly what exam questions are asking for. As an AQA examiner, I have a strong understanding of the level of precision required in examination responses.
I particularly enjoy working with students who want to push themselves towards Grades 7–9, including students currently working at Grades 5–7 who want to make significant progress.
Lessons are one hour, online or in person, and focus specifically on AQA GCSE Chemistry. I will adapt sessions according to each student's needs, whether that means addressing gaps in knowledge, supporting their current school topics or preparing intensively for assessments and GCSE examinations.
I will always engage the student by asking purposeful questions to help them deepen their understanding and build on their previous responses in a way that improves their confidence and academic performance.

My daughter signed up with Priya when she was at the start of Year 10. Priya worked so well with her by finding out which topics she needed help on, going through the questions step by step and building my daughter's confidence. Priya's work with her has led her to getting a Grade 9 this summer and she is now going on to study A Level Chemistry at a grammar school. Early help and support from Priya was so important. I hope to reach out again for A Level tuition if she needs it.
