About Jake

Hi! My name is Jake, and I’m currently a student at the University of Rhode Island, exploring my academic interests with a strong focus on Applied Mathematics. I graduated from Classical High School in Providence in 2025, where I developed a passion for problem-solving, communication, and helping others succeed. My Academic Background I’ve completed a variety of courses that strengthen both my mathematical and interpersonal skills, including: Calculus II, where I worked with advanced integration techniques, real-world applications, and introductory polar coordinates. Developmental Psychology, which helps me understand how students learn, grow, and process information at different ages. Introduction to Psychology, giving me insight into how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors impact learning. Introduction to Communication, where I practiced and delivered multiple types of speeches and learned how to explain ideas clearly in different settings. This mix of math, psychology, and communication allows me to support students not only academically, but emotionally and motivationally as well. Experience Working With People My experiences have shaped me into a patient, reliable, and adaptable tutor: As a practice player for the URI Women’s Basketball Team, I’ve learned teamwork, discipline, and how to communicate clearly under pressure. Through years of cat-sitting for multiple families, I’ve built trust, responsibility, and a strong work ethic—qualities I bring into every tutoring session. Working as a Fitness Floor Manager at the Jewish Community Center, I developed organizational skills, led programming, and interacted with people of all ages and backgrounds. Skills & Strengths Bilingual (Spanish – Seal of Biliteracy) Excellent verbal and written communication Strong foundation in math through Calculus II Patient, understanding, and great with kids Highly organized and dependable Proficient with all Google platforms (Docs, Drive, Sheets, Forms, etc.) Why I Tutor I believe every student is capable of understanding math with the right support, encouragement, and explanation style. My goal is to help kids build confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and feel genuinely proud of their progress. I bring a calm, positive approach to every session and love seeing students go from “I don’t get this” to “I can do this.”

I focus on patience, clarity, and building confidence. I break concepts into simple steps, use real-life examples, and encourage students to think out loud so I can adjust my explanations to their learning style. I keep lessons positive, supportive, and stress-free to help kids truly understand math—not fear it.

Each session begins with a quick check-in to see how your child is feeling and what they’re working on. We review homework, tackle problem areas together, and practice skills with guided examples. I end each lesson with a short summary so both students and parents know what we covered and what’s next.

I’m not just strong in math—I’m great with kids. I bring patience, encouragement, and a calm teaching style that helps younger learners stay focused and comfortable. I prioritize confidence-building as much as correct answers, creating a learning environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and grow.

My tutoring is ideal for elementary, middle school, and high school students needing support in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus I. Whether your child needs homework help, test prep, or skill reinforcement, I tailor each session to their level and learning needs.
