About Atticus

I am a professional working actor with international and west end stage experience as well as many voiceover credits. I have trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York.

I primarily operate as a Voice, Speech, Accent and Acting coach nowadays. I shadowed Ron Burrus as a teacher and trained under him as an actor for years. Ron is the primary source of Adler technique training in the world, he shadowed Stellla Adler personally for 10 years and that lineage of knowledge continues with myself and others. I am the only Adler technique teacher based in the UK however.

I currently teach at many established drama schools in London such as LAMDA, RCSSD, Rose Bruford and Identity School of Acting.

About the lesson

I currently teach Adler technique at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in NYC. I have also taught at LAMDA, Rose Bruford, RCSSD, Playwrights Horizons Theater School, Fordham University and more. The Adler technique is a methodology of acting particularly focused on releasing the intense capabilities of our imagination and it is very hard to find Adler training in the UK. I am however trained across all methods of acting, including Meisner and Strasberg for example and understand the usefulness of accessing a variety of methods to identify what exactly is suited to the individual. I base my training on building an understanding of the Adler Technique primarily but will offer alternative technique training when I feel it may offer you more in a specific circumstance.

The Adler Technique teaches the actor how to work independently in a stimulating manner rooted in the activation of the imagination while maintaining presence. Key principles we will cover include:

1. Experiencing your acting (above all)
2. Justification + Imagination = Stimulation
3. Non-Verbal Reactions
4. Feelings
5. The Present and Presence
6. Acting Scores
7. Character Actions
8. Awareness without Judgement
9. Specificity
10. Owning your Language

Famous students and practitioners of the Adler Technique include: Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Benicio Del Toro, Mark Ruffalo, Melanie Griffith, Salma Hayek, Harvey Keitel and many many more.
