Richard Mofe-Damijo: How It All Began
The actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo was born July 6th 1961 (currently age 60). He was born in the Aladja community of the Udu Kingdom in Warri, Delta State of Nigeria. He grew up in Warri, an oil hub in South-South Nigeria.
Richard MofeDamijo"s name might sound like he's from the Yoruba tribe however, he is an Urhobo man from Warri, Delta State and not a Yoruba man.
His father Mr Mofe-Damijo worked at the Nigerian Ports authority while his mother was a trader. It was also discovered that both his parents suffered from the sickness of hypertension and diabetes before they both died. He revealed in an interview that his mother died at age 59 years while his father died at about 57 years.
He attended and completed his primary school education in a small village school in Warri. He went ahead to do his secondary school education in Midwest College, Warri and Anglican Grammar School and was an active member of the Drama Clubs in both schools.
The actor has two degrees. One in theatre arts and the other in Law. He first obtained a degree in theatre arts at the University of Benin, Edo state in 1997 after his secondary school education.
After his first degree, he went further to pursue a degree in law at the University of Lagos popularly known as Unilag and graduated in 2004. He was called to the Nigerian bar in 2005.
After his university degree, RMD became a journalist and a good one at that. He worked at Concord Newspapers and Metro Magazine as a reporter. So, after he obtained his first degree and before pursuing his second one in 1997, he started acting professionally.
The actor later quit his job as a reporter and fully pursued his acting dreams. He acted in his first television soap opera Ripples which was very popular in the '80s. The popular television series back then won him an award for best actor in a leading role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
By the early 2000s, RMD was already a household name in the Nollywood space
RMD is a husband, father and grandfather. He was previously married to May Mofe-Damijo (nee Ellen-Ezekiel) a popular journalist and publisher before she died in 1996.
After his first wife died in 1996, Richard Mofe-Damijo remarried TV personality, Jumobi Adegbesan in the year 2000. She later left TV for the corporate world and to take care of their kids.
The actor is said to have five children. Two from his late first wife, two from his current wife and one child from an unknown woman to the public before the two children he had with his late first wife.

The movie industry legend in 2008 was appointed as the Special Adviser of Culture and Tourism to the then Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan. Then in 2009, he became the Commissioner for the culture and tourism of Delta State, Nigeria. His appointment and tenure ended in the year 2015.
At around the period of his appointment, the actor didn't act a lot and it got a lot of his fans questioning why. It was not until the revelation of his political career that it was understood by many for the little break.
