Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs known as Olu Jacobs is one of the Godfathers of the Nollywood industry. He has been acting for over four decades and he is married to veteran actress Joke Silvia, a famous Nollywood actress. He is seen as a bridge between the old and new breeds of actors in the Nollywood industry.

Olu Jacobs: How It All Began

Origin

Olu Jacobs was born on the 11th of July 1942 (currently 79 years of age). He was born in Abeokuta, Ogun state to parents from Egba Alake. He is a Yoruba man from the southwestern part of Nigeria. His early childhood was spent mostly in Kano, which is the Northern part of Nigeria.

He was brought up in a decent Christian home and raised by both his mother and father. His love for acting emerged right from his childhood days and his father was initially against him acting professionally. However, that did not stop him from later pursuing his passion for acting.

Education

He obtained his primary leaving school certificate in Kano State where he spent his early childhood before he complete his secondary school education in Lagos State where he obtained his western African senior secondary school certificate.

The actor because of his passion for acting travelled in 1964 to study Theatre arts at the Royal Academy Arts (RADA) in England. It was in the United Kingdom he got his acting qualifications and experience that has made him a renowned actor today.

Early Career

The actor started his acting career in the United Kingdom after training at RADA, London. He then appeared in various British television shows and series in the 1970s (including The Goodies, Till Death Us Do Part, Barlow at Large, The Venturers, The Tomorrow People and The Professionals).

He also starred in John Irvin's war film; The Dogs of War and several other international films in the '80s.

Personal Life

Olu Jacobs is married to the popular and beautiful Joke Silvia who is also a veteran Nollywood actress.  He met her a year after he arrived from England during the pre-production of a stage play. They are both blessed with two sons together.

She is her own individual. When I met her, she was an actress Known as Joke Silvia so why should mrrying me now deny her and her audience her name. She is Miss Joke Silvia who is Mrs Joke Jacobs. I is as simple as that. People now begin to say what they like. They have even written that we are sepeartedand all sort of stuff. When she is working, she is Joke Silvia but she is Mrs Joke Jacobs at home.

His Acting Career In Britain

This prominent and loving actor first got his acting role in London after he trained with Royal Academy Arts (RADA). 

He got his first role in the United Kingdom when he accompanied his friend who was part of an acting union to an audition for a movie role. He was persuaded to take part in the audition and the judges immediately were impressed.

The actor's decision to travel to the United Kingdom birthed his dual citizenship. He is a Nigerian by birth and British by naturalization.

His first role and movie were produced by AA productions and the movie was titled The Vigilante. After his first movie, he then appeared in various British television shows and series in the 1970s. Olu Jacobs Rise To Prominence in Nollywood And The Movie Industry

Olu Jacob returned to Nigeria in his forties after twenty years of acting in the United Kingdom. He decided to come to Nigeria to put the knowledge he acquired over the years in the UK to act in the Nollywood industry. The actor came into an industry at that time that was new and unprofitable, unlike the industry he was coming from in the UK.

However, his passion and hard work made him triumph in the industry and he is now one of the most respected oldest Nigerian film producers that have paved the way for the younger generations of actors. The actor has acted and featured in over 100 Nollywood films since he returned to the country in the early '90s.

His inspiration to go into acting as a career came strongly after he attended Late Chief Hubert Ogunde's annual concert party in Kano State, Nigeria in 1970. Hubert Ogunde was a Nigerian actor, playwright and theatre manager.

Olu Jacobs Film Academy

Olu Jacob and his wife Joke Silvia both own Lufodo Group, a film academy in Nigeria. Lufodo Group is a film academy that is known for doing the various aspects of filmmaking such as training aspiring actors/actresses, editing, makeup, scriptwriting, directing, producing, directing, costume, set design and so on.

The company was founded in 1985 and incorporated on the 25th of September 2000. Olu Jacobs is the Chairman of the company and his wife is the executive director.

Lufodo Group is the parent company of other businesses owned by the actor such as the Lufodo productions, Lufodo Academy of performing Arts, Lufodo assets, Lufodo Consult and Lufodo distribution.

Lufodo Group also has an executive branch called LAPA. LAPA consult is an aspect of their business that provides training for executives, professionals and corporate bodies.
