“Everything you can imagine is real.” - Pablo Picasso

Colouring books haven’t been for kids for a few years now. While sales peaked in 2015, colouring books for adults are still quite popular. You can pick up some coloured pencils of felt-tips and start colouring in mandalas for a moment of peace.

Would you like to start making your own drawings?

Whether it’s Halloween, Christmas, Father’s or Mother’s Day, etc. there are plenty of holidays for you to draw inspiration from.

Drawings for Halloween

Stop printing off decorations or things to colour; you can make your own decorations and drawings for Halloween. You can colour them yourself or make them for your children to colour in. It’ll be a welcome relief from the same stuff they colour all the time.

What can you draw for Halloween?

For Halloween, there are a few things you can draw so grab your art supplies.

Here are a few things you can draw:

  • A pumpkin
  • A dead person’s head
  • A skeleton
  • A “Scream” mask
  • Witches on broomsticks
  • A vampire
  • Monsters
  • Scary clowns
  • A zombie

Here’s how to draw a scary teddy.

  • Start by drawing the teddy bear’s eyes. Draw one eye on the right by drawing an angled line and then making another shorter line underneath to make a point. Join up the loose edges with a curved line. The second eye will be smaller. Opposite the first eye, draw a curved line for the top of the eye, then join the first line starting with a slight curve at the end.
  • Let’s move onto the bear’s head. The lines need to be straighter and in the form of an octagon. Don’t forget to give the bear some fur with some zig-zags.
  • Draw a scar on his forehead. Draw an angled line with perpendicular lines for the stitches. Add the ears. Personally, I prefer curved eyes but you can also make them curved horn-like ears.
  • For the bear’s body, draw an oval. Add another scar. Its arms need to be on each side of the body emerging from the base of the head. Draw some curved rectangles for its legs. Some extra scars won’t go amiss and once you’re done, you can go back over the lines with a pencil or black felt-tip. Make sure everything’s dried before you erase the pencil.

What Can You Draw for Christmas?

Let’s move away from the scary and towards the festive. Ah, the holidays! Without a doubt, most children’s (and adults’) favourite time of the year. Christmas films on TV, hot chocolate, decorations around town, mulled wine, etc.

So what decorations can you make at home?

You can even make your own Christmas cards!

So what will you draw?

  • A Christmas tree
  • Father Christmas
  • A Snowman
  • Santa’s elf
  • A reindeer
  • Santa’s sleigh
  • A present
  • A house in the snow
  • A gingerbread man
  • Snowballs

There are several ways to draw a Christmas tree.

  • You can use several layers of wave-like shapes and a rectangular base.
  • You can draw a single line with lines coming off it until you get to the base. You can always add a pot at the bottom and a star at the top.
  • Draw a vertical line and draw increasingly large triangles on either side until you reach the bottom. You can then colour them in.
  • You can draw zig-zags starting at the top that get bigger until you reach the bottom.
  • You can also draw a vertical line with bigger and bigger waves.

There are plenty of tutorials available online to help you.

What Can You Draw at Easter?

Here’s how to draw a chick in an Easter egg:

  • Start with two ovals for the eyes. Add to conjoined triangles for the beak.
  • Draw a zig-zag for the top of the Easter egg above the chick’s eyes. Do the same underneath its beak.
  • Draw two curved lines either side of its eyes to complete the head. Add two wings coming out either side of the egg. Finish the egg by drawing a curved line above and below the zig-zags to complete the shell.
  • Add decorations to the egg: stars, stripes, hearts, flowers, a rainbow, etc.
  • Next, the colour. Don’t forget to leave a tiny white circle in the chick’s eyes. Colour the beak in orange, the chick in yellow, and colour the egg to your heart’s content.

Drawings for Birthdays!

Birthdays can take place at any time during the year. It’s a great opportunity to create original designs.

You could draw a birthday cake. You can vary this according to your preferences and whose birthday it is. Don’t hesitate to create birthday cards yourself or as a project to do with your children.

You can create a birthday card to wish somebody a “Happy Birthday”. It’s more thoughtful than a card that you can find in a shop.

Would you like to create some custom decorations for your kid’s birthday?

You could create a garland of bright colours.

These are pretty cute. You could also draw a cake in a comic book style.

  • Start by drawing a large rectangle with circles at the bottom for cherries or sweets. You can also draw small waves to represent the icing at the base of the cake. Draw a horizontal line to join the icing.
  • Move onto the second tier of the cake by drawing more sweets but smaller than the ones on the base. Draw another smaller rectangle and finish it off with a slightly curved line. Add some semi-circles to the top of the tier.
  • Draw some icing and candles or sparklers to the top fo the cake.
  • Draw two closed eyes and a smile on the second tier, then two big open eyes by the first tier.
  • You can colour it to your heart’s content.

So which drawings will you be starting with?

No matter which drawing you want to do or the day of the year you want to do it, you can get started with art and painting during the holidays or at any time of the year. If you want to learn how to draw like your favourite artists, you'll need to learn more about their work and the steps they took to put their ideas onto paper or canvas.

While a book or reading is a good first step towards learning about how to draw, you might also want to look at all the different options you have. For example, private tutorials are amongst some of the best ways to get help with your art, drawing, or even sculpture. They'll be able to help you improve your work every step of the way.

Find different drawing lessons on Superprof.

Unlike a typical art class, a home tutor will let you learn what you want to, rather than designing lessons for the whole class. If you want to focus solely on drawing things for Christmas, that's fine! There may be another holiday you prefer, especially if you're not a Christian. A private tutor will plan fun lessons for budding artists of all ages and will make sure they suit the type of drawing or painting that you want to do.

There are different types of tutorials available on Superprof, so think about which type will be best for you or your kids and how you'd like to learn to paint or draw.

With face-to-face tutorials, it's just you and the tutor in the session so you can guarantee that they're focused on you and what you want to learn. They can plan the lessons with you in mind and ensure the course content matches exactly what you want or need to learn. They can also work to your strengths and weaknesses and provide you with fun and engaging activities.

For those on a budget, group tutorials are great as you can share the cost of the tutor's time. While you can't guarantee a lesson focuses on exactly what you want to learn, you and a group of friends, family members, and colleagues could all learn some new skills together.

Finally, if you can't find any suitable tutors near you, you can broaden your search to include online tutors. As long as you have a webcam and a decent internet connection, you can be taught by tutors all over the world!

Don't forget that on Superprof, many of the tutors offer free tutoring for the first lesson. This will allow you to try out different artists and see which ones offer the best lessons for you. You can organise which day of the week you have your lessons, and book a few tutorials at the same time as some tutors will give you a discount for guaranteeing them more work.
