About Arnab

Coming from a musical family background I was blessed to be introduced to music and tabla at a very early age.I was also part of school bands where my initial shows as a drummer started followed by playing drums for other bands and artists.After school I went to KM MUSIC CONSERVATORY(AR Rahman's MUSIC COLLEGE) in Chennai, where I was blessed to pursue my studies in Western Drums and Percussions under my guru Anantha R Krishnan sir(grandson of mridangam vidwan Palghat Raghu ji) and Matteo Fraboni sir (Italian Jazz Drummer).I was also part of the UTV BINDASS DREAMSTART which provided me scholarship to study at my college.Since then I had the opportunity to learn and experience playing with a variety of artists coming from different genres like rock,jazz, carnatic, hindustani classic,fusion,Bollywood,pop music and others.And now I am excited to share all that i have known all these while,humbly with my students.

About the lesson

It's very important for one to visualize our future self and where do we really want to stand later!So it is my first approach to develop visualisation in my students by continuously inspiring and motivating them.In every class seatings I give them lesson which they have to prepare for the next class.There will be both practical part and theoretical part of the lesson.And for knowing the rest why not arrange our first class? :)

Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
Having the fortune to be born and raised in a family of musicians, there was an overall ambience of rhythm and melody around the house, but magnetically rhythm chose me as one of his followers.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
My guru Anantha R Krishnan sir back in my alma mater Km Music Conservatory, apart from being a fabulous performer was a superb teacher too, through casual talks, metaphors he used to teach complex lessons so easily, and that inspired me to become a teacher so that I can too help my students to make the teaching process a fun session rather than an intimidating one.
How does your work help society?
Since ancient times in India, we have the guru, shisya concept and also we have seen how even the kings used to train under their gurus to become expert at a particular skill. So the fact is that we need someone to shape our skills and for that we need a guide, a teacher. And through my teaching, I will help my students to get better and skilled at drumming, which will eventually help the society to create beats.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
I have plenty of them. I will not be able to name just one. Like Ranjit Barot sir, my Guru Anantha R Krishnan Sir, Trilok Gurtu Sir, Zakir Hussain ji, my Guru TH VIKKU VINAYAKARAM Sir, Buddy rich, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Jojo Mayer, Chris Coleman, Simon Phillips, Larnel Lewis, Gavin Harrison,Benny Greb and many more. All are very unique and creative.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
Apart from music, I love gardening, reading, books, meditation and sometimes making delicious dishes.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
I have always felt very lucky and blessed to be able to do what I love doing. So, here goes all my efforts in teaching my students through which I will make them become a ------- musician. Okay, so I will let you fill in this blank, after we have started with our sessions. So what are you waiting for, why not start our first session?
